Because birds of a feather flock together.
Whether Bill Clinton participated or not, he had to have known. Bare minimum, highly suspected. Yet he did nothing but look away at best, and enjoyed his share at worst. So at best he violated good samaritan code. At worst he violated the law.
She violated good samaritan code too if she knew. As you said, they used to pal around with the Trumps prior to politics and we all know that Cockroach can’t keep his yap shut about anything. He does love a good brag. So it’s likely she knew. Bare minimum, highly suspected with some very easy math involved (1 +1 = ?). Enough to have required her to find out for her own health if for no other reason (assuming they were still sexual partners).
One can be shady and of questionable morals without being criminal. Or even criminal adjacent.
It’s madness to consider putting anyone like that in a position of power. Common sense tells you they won’t be able to handle it. Such is our politics.
I have a rule for myself. Regardless of party, I will not knowingly vote for someone who has a history of questionable exploitative or abusive history around their sexual or family lives. If I find out after voting for them, they won’t get my vote again. Why? I have this theory that as they say marijuana is the gateway drug, sexual abuse/misconduct is the gateway corruption. You can tell it nearly every time. It goes hand in hand with malfeasance of office. It really does.
So why vote for someone who stands a better than average chance of robbing the public coffers blind? Or cheating on infrastructure standards to line pockets (are you paying attention Texas?) with your money?
As you said, there is another choice. You can not stand by a corrupt man. You can not be his life preserver. You can cut him lose and let him sink or swim on his own. You can realize you’re not cheating or harming your children by doing so. You’re teaching them standards. You’re teaching them to not be victims or exploiters themselves.
We rarely hear about those though. Maybe a passing mention because our society views women who do so as hags who get off on kicking a man when he’s down. We don’t laud them, they become social pariahs in a sense. We do laud women for keeping a marriage together no matter what happened and no matter how painful.
