Asking someone's name is not invasive if you offer yours first. It's part of getting to know someone. Nothing to do with face blindness or being autistic either.

If you just walked up to someone and asked their name, then yes, that would be awkward.

This whole thing could have gone smoother if he had come up and said something like, "Hey, that's a cool/sweet dog. What's it's name? Can I pet him/her? Hey, thanks, I'm [name] by the way. Nice to meet you."

At which point I would have said, "sure thing. I'm SC. Nice to meet you too."

Easy.

He was either looking for someone to support him or he's one of those guys who thinks all women are sex workers or were like sex vending machines. I still lean toward support because of the focus on business and the "it's good you understand this". Wby would a prostitute need to understand how landscaoe businesses work. She cares if he can pay or not right then and that's it.

But whatthefuckever. His motives aside, the answer is still no.
