As you said, it takes a 2/3 majority vote to expel a member from each Congressional house so she was never in danger of being expelled from Congress. To force a vote you know you’re going to lose is an admonition of Republicans for not cleaning up their own caucus and being such cowards to extremism. Was there even a vote for expulsion?
It takes a simple majority vote to remove a member from committee. She absolutely should have been removed from both because:
Having her serve on the education committee after spouting that nonsense about Sandy Hook AND stalking and harassing a Parkland survivor was an absolute demeaning slap across the face of every school age child in this country, regardless of whether or not it was before her election. My God. The Shame. What was McCarthy thinking? Maybe he did it on purpose so Democrats would have to do his dirty work for him and he could preserve his stylin' jellyfish physique.
That confrontation with David Hogg was not a difference of opinion about gun control btw, it was a criminal act she should have been arrested for. Stalking, harrassment, menacing. Those were illegal last time I checked. If she were a man prancing around up in a teenager’s face like that she would have been arrested on the spot. Personally I hope his organization sues her.
Had they not removed her American children likely would have pulled a Greta and gone on strike. As a parent, I would have supported that and tried to organize a property tax strike until she resigned or got pulled off that committee. America’s children and their parents are sick and tired of blood flowing through school halls. Education should NOT be a potentially lethal enterprise.
What does she even plan to add to education? Political posters showing her brandishing weapons of war toward the heads of Democrats for civics class?
Classy. Maybe that will be on the SATs.
She should also have been removed from the Labor and Budget committees because those committees require intelligent debate and the ability to parse facts accurately and expediently. If you can’t tell via basic bits of common sense and very mild amounts of research that there’s no way in Holy hell space lasers started California’s wildfires how are going to be a functioning member of a committee? How are you not going to be a dead weight against any amount of progress or actual work being accomplished? How can you be depended upon to do the people’s business?
You can’t.
The work of Congress also depends upon safe space for vigorous debate. It is the responsibility of ALL Congresspersons to share the burden equally of preserving that safe space. You are not meeting your burden if you are publicly calling for the executions of political rivals. Further, you can not have open and honest debate when some Congresspersons are armed and some are under threat of violence from the armed.
Democracy doesn’t work that way.
House and Senate rules forbid weapons on the floor. MTG and a few others are violating those rules, choosing their own selfish petulance over their oaths of office and the people they claim to represent. They should all be drop kicked down the capitol steps.
I hope Georgia’s District 14 votes better for themselves as soon as they can. I don’t know if she can be removed or recalled from a state level in Georgia but if she can, I hope District 14 pursues action to do so with all haste.
They deserve much better than being represented by a Q-nut because they’re decent hard working people in that area.
