As it so happens, years ago I had a cat and a dog together. It wasn't that hard to treat them both equally.

They got fed at the same time. They both got trained. They both got played with, sometimes together, sometimes individually. They both got the medical care they needed. Both got treats at the same time.

When I went to work, they both got the bye bye luvs, special to each one. When I got home they both got the chance to give me the 'where the hell have you been' maulings of affection. I made sure they both had access to water upon leaving and returning.

When we went for a ride in the truck (which was actually a Jeep Wrangler), they both came. They both got to go to the park and bark/meow at the buffalo. One of the bulls seemes to be pretty fond of the cat.

They both had equal access to me, especially for the evening pile up, even though they had their own spaces. Obviously. They both could request my help or attention whenever they wanted or needed it. And they did, often.

The dog did not get denigrated or put down just because he couldn't jump from the floor to the refrigerator or the top of a door. He never got blamed if there was a mouse in the garage or the tool shed. He was too big to get in those small spaces.

The cat was never denigrated or put down jusr because she couldn't open the fridge and bring me a beer like the dog could. Too heavy for her. Never got yelled at for the moles in the yard either, need to be able to dig them out.

They were both kind and loving to each other and to me. Everybody had a happy and content life, knowing we were all cared for and cares about. Nobody got left out and isolated. Ones not above the others.

Equality and equity work.
