And as long as “news” is a business that must make money to survive, then what makes money will be news.

On the other hand, if you make it a public service, then government financial support will inevitably corrupt journalism as the fourth estate.

It really is quite the pickle. Damned either way.

So what’s a solution here? Maybe something that works somewhat like wikipedia, is incorporated as a Not For Profit, has a public board and a professional credentialing, and is financed by public, open book donations?
