All suffragettes were female. You can drop the female here, or just say woman.

Not saying there were men who supported women's voting rights, but they were not called suffragettes nor did they refer to themselves as suffragettes.

They were suffragists and referred to themselves that way.

The -ette makes the word distinctly female already in the same way that in Spanish, an a ending on an adjective makes it feminine and an o ensing makes it masculine.
