Ah. I thought you might have meant faking being angry. I remember Shananay from Martin Laurence but I remember the character as being cartoonishly high strung and flamboyant about it but not angry and certainly not what I think of when I hear the word “ghetto". It was an hilarious character he did.
It’s true that there’s always shock when a black woman loses her cool. I always thought it was more because of the strong black woman trope though, rather than perceptions of “ghetto". Seems like most black women don’t feel okay or safe enough to speak out, so they swallow their anger. The result being that when they blow up they really blow up.
It often does seem excessive, actually, or disproportionate to the situation until you realize how much they’ve been holding back and for how long … situations or interactions you likely weren’t present for or know nothing about. Then you’re just gobsmacked.
Which gets back to making sure we don’t turn on our own kind and work to make space for each other. Not automatically think the worst of each other.
I’m sorry you felt that way. I hope in the future you find better space to express anger and frustration and that no black woman feels like she has to swallow her anger until she’s choking on it.
All my best in hope of better days.
