Actually, no it wasn’t.

Were female [insert any and all other species here] also going to utilize the board? Are empresses posting requests for bananas? Are cows advocating for more comfortable lactation equipment? Are vixens posting about where to find the tastiest does?

That’s what you call the female of chimpanzees, cattle, foxes, and rabbits.

You call female humans women.

So, if you’re talking about something that ONLY applies to human females, like, use of a specific technology, then you should refer to human females, not females.

You should use a term specific to humans, like women.

In this case I would have gone with women and girls.

Not females.

And no, I don’t usually get too upset about this as I’m used to seeing it. But, to say that females fits better is grammatically incorrect. It is dehumanizing, especially in texts that will mix terms like, they’ll say men and females instead of males and females or men and women.

Often, it’s deliberately reductive. Sometimes it’s just blind bias.

Words do matter.
