Abe, you are living in a capitalist economy, not a socialist one. The ills of today you speak of were created from predatory capitalism, not socialism, as we have never been a socialist country.
Please note, I’m not advocating one economic system over another. Both have their strong points and their weak points. Both are susceptible to forces that can break them, corruption being one they share.
Runaway, unchecked, rampant corruption led a functioning capitalist economy becoming a predatory capitalist one.
As a result, like in the ‘30s, we need massive social programs spearheaded by the government to right the boat and get us moving again. They flow of capital cannot be unidirectional without ending in collapse. Social programs reverse/balance the flow.
Social programs ≠socialist government.
Robust public goods and services do not harm the economy, they help it thrive. Like the Interstate system, Social Security, Libraries, public education, etc. Offering a public option does not take choice away from private ones for those who want them. It helps keep them competitive.
I’ll say it again.
