30% won’t get vaccinated for "the flu"; I mean Covid here but comparing it to the flu made it seem less severe in people’s minds. Soon as they said that and didn’t push the autopsy photos/results and the reality that it’s a vascular disease as much as a respiratory one, I was face palming, groaning, and rolling my eyes. I kinda figured it would go down the way it did, and you couldn’t convince people otherwise. Consequences of a heart attack or an aneurism seemed remote and too far down the road.

This may be different though. Chicken pox isn’t deadly and used to be a rite of childhood. But, when vaccines became available they were widely accepted and most kids are vaccinated for chicken pox, even though they are optional and not required in most states.

What’s the difference?

Pox leaves ugly scars that will affect you the rest of you life. Monkey pox pustules tend to particularly congregate on the face, hands, and feet. The scarring on Google images also looks worse than what I remember of chicken pox. Then there’s the convenience factor. Chicken pox would knock you out of school for 1 to 2 weeks. Looks like monkey pox is more like 3 to 4 weeks. That’s 3 to 4 weeks of having to stay home with a sick kid. If you have multiple kids, it will be a lot longer because they could be carrying it for up to 21 days before showing symptoms. I don’t know if they can pass it back and forth or not; I would assume not because it’s a pox, but I don’t know. Parents could lose their jobs and/or their homes because the social safety net has been gutted and we don’t have enough paid leave for this sort of thing. Still.

Anyways, never underestimate the power of vanity and convenience.

Will there still he people refusing the vaccine because of "freedumb"? Sure. There are always crackpots and they’re always going to do crack pot things. But, I doubt it will be anywhere near 30%.

I think we’ll see less than 10% of die hard Darwin award participants. The others? They’d rather look pretty on camera at the next Darwin awards so they’ll sit this one out.

For what it’s worth, that’s my opinion and my reasoning for it.
